The Problem Definition "Golden Rule"

“Whoever has the gold, makes the rules.” Murphy’s Golden Rule

I talked with a friend today who regaled me with the problems they’re currently experiencing at work … teams being assembled, and then reassembled, departmental barriers, resistance and unwillingness to collaborate. It sure looked like they had a lot of problems at the team level.

Then I heard about the management. Words like control freak, micro-manager, feels comfortable yelling at managers in front their peers, doesn’t recognize people.

I don’t know enough about the situation yet, but it looks to me like the leaders (who have the gold) have defined the problem to be the team’s problem. That way they don’t consider what they may be doing to contribute to the problem.
